here's how NOT to deal with food cravings

 Hey omorfe,

Every Sunday I'm visiting my parents. And my mom is *always* buying me some amazing ice cream (yes, even during winter). What's interesting is that I ate the ice cream at 2pm today. And, I'm betting you euros to donuts, tomorrow at 2:30pm, I'll get cravings for sweets.

Note: this is not accidental.

Your body will send craving signals after 20-30 hours and try to make you gorge on junk food. If you can resist the tempation, you'll be good to go (at least for the next few days)

Speaking of cravings, here's a question I saw a while ago:

"Im on day 8 of eating healthy and I'm having terrible cravings to get either a bag of chips, or a brownie. I know about moderation but that doesn't work on me.

If I go buy a small bowl of chips, my brains gonna go "well there's more right there, why not go for that too?" as soon as i finish a reasonable until ive finished all of it. I've tried everything to only eat a small amount, but it just doesn't work on me. If I tell myself I'm buying chips i can't reason with myself to get a small portion either."

My first idea when I read that he's craving chips, was to wonder whether he has also limited his salt intake.

For whatever reason, Feetness Eggsperts have demonized salt the last few years.

That's dumb.

Salt, as long as you don't have high pressure, is necessary for your body. You shouldn't remove it or reduce consumption, unless you have a good reason. Our friend here might be craving chips because they're salty and he's no longer getting salt.

The same can be told about the brownie. He might be craving *something* that's in the brownie's ingredients.

Up next, he might be craving the foods' *texture*

Chips have a crunchy texture and brownies' have their own "baked" one

So if his current meals lack both of those textures, this might cause cravings.

I always shake my head when mental midgets respond with "calories in, calories out bro" in cases like that. If you've been overeating for a while and decide to lose the pesky pounds, calories in calories out won't cut it. You need to consider things like tastes, texture, and (more importantly) the individual.

Just some whole foods for thought, omorfe.
